Carved through woodlands, lakes, and natural elevations, the East and West Courses provide both challenge and beauty, making Grandover one of the Southeast’s premier golf destinations. |
East CourseThe East Course is the more formidable of Grandover’s two championship layouts, opened in 1996 and stretching approximately 7,250 yards from the championship tees. Its design by David Graham and Gary Panks capitalizes on rolling terrain and tree-lined fairways that frame dramatic vistas and changing elevations. While par is defended by length and topography more than by constant forced carries, water makes its presence felt — especially on a few front-nine holes where creeks and ponds challenge both approach shots and lay-ups. Greens are contoured, demanding precise iron play and thoughtful strategy, particularly on the back nine where finishing holes include a stern par-5 with water guarding the approach. | West CourseThe West Course, added in 1997, offers a different kind of test: still championship calibre but slightly more forgiving than its sister. Measuring about 6,800 yards from the back tees and also a par-72, it bends with the naturally rolling Piedmont terrain of North Carolina. Its first nine holes move away from the resort in a more “links-style” manner, using elevation changes and open vistas, then return for the inward nine with tighter routing and more strategic hazards. Accuracy off the tee is rewarded here, especially where fairway bunkers and wetlands influence choices, and many greens are well-guarded, undulating, and require thoughtful placement and short game finesse. |
